Most of what a wafer or waffle oven burns goes into turning batter water into steam. That floor is fixed by physics, so it tells you how much of a quoted fuel figure is unavoidable and how much is oven inefficiency.

The floor uses the latent heat of vaporisation of water, 2,257 kJ per kilogram, and a dry-solids mass balance. It excludes heating the batter to temperature, oven losses, idle draw and warm-up, so a real line always sits above it. Nothing here is a machine specification.
